No, I never entered a phone number, and I know the app does not have access to my number without asking me. No matter what email address I entered, I received an error *on the email address field* stating that the phone number (yes, phone number) was already in use. I reset the password, confirmed I could login on my computer, but still couldn't login to the app.At this point, I figured I'd try registering a new account.

(More on that below.) Right after I got everything working for the first time, I closed the app, re-opened it, and was kicked back to a login screen, where I re-entered the email address and password I had just registered only to be told they were incorrect. (A dot-matrix display projected onto the back of a curved diffuser ring with a capacitive touchscreen interface is seriously just cool, and it blends *perfectly* with the rest of the light, whether on or off.) Yet, I can't possibly leave this product a positive review due to the connected features. The problems started shortly after registering, and after resolving some network troubles. Even the screen and UI are really nicely integrated into the product. The light provides a wonderfully smooth glow and transition from dark to light and back. The alarm sounds are some of the best I've seen in a bedside clock. App must be on same WiFi network as device, despite relying on Philips's servers for most functionality.I'm really torn about this product. Network communication with app is janky at best, and appears to be partially broken. App requires location access "to connect to WiFi" will not allow you to do anything without it.

Light works well.Cons: Account registration in app is broken in multiple ways required. 2 Required app *WILL NOT WORK* without location access (and other fun setup issues). Stick with the HF3520 for truer simulations. Cons: The color simulations dissapointed me very much for the price point. It makes for a great nightlight or gentle reading lamp. Pros: The modern design and touch interface. I am returning it and found another HF3520 elsewhere online as it is very hard to get. I brought that model for $104 here on Amazon and now it is selling for $235 as of, so I chose to spend the same on a newer model. The 'doughnut' design meant a lot of light was scattered or missing, resulting in an overall darker brightness when compared to the HF3520.

The color faded to a 'smog' orange and rapidly through a smoky red turned grey-red and out. It spent most time in the bright white/yellow range and less in the orange and far less in the red compared to the HF3520. While the controls were touch based and much easier to navigate than the HF3520, the color was lacking. 1 Disappointing for the price I expected this top-of-the-range model to equal the Philips HF3520/60 Wake-up Light Colored Sunrise Simulation, White, or even surpass it, but was very disappointed. Until then, one star because it broke my heart (and my amazing streak of being on time for work). If that works out, I'll come back and amend this review.

I ended up putting it out on the porch until it shut off.Anyway, I'm going to try and figure out how to return it and hopefully get a replacement or repair (sadly, it died after the return window for Amazon, though not by that much). With no touch screen I couldn't turn it off-and the handy emergency battery meant unplugging it didn't help. Hilariously, the alarm still sounded for a few mornings (no light, just sound). The touch screen totally vanished and it doesn't have a workaround. And then one day it just up and died, after two months of use. This one was kind of expensive for my budget, but it sounded perfect. It's the third one I've tried, after a cheapo model that wasn't powerful enough, and a different brand that was flimsy and fussy.
